City of Boroondara is a leader in the sector and given the diverse services the organisation delivers, has the ability to positively impact the lives of its customers and community in many ways. To realise its future-focused vision of transforming the organisation into one that places the customer at the centre and delivers a more seamless, convenient and empowering experience, the organisation has committed to implementing a 5 year Customer First Program commencing in 2019-20.
In the Placemaking Lead role, you will need to integrate urban design and infrastructure improvements with a focus on developing partnerships across the community and significant stakeholder agencies (including other public sector organisations) to enable the creation of thriving places within City of Boroondara.
Given the nature of Placemaking, you will need to build relationships within the organisation and ensure strong linkages are formed across the business. This will see collaboration across service areas being achieved and collective approaches being taken that yield better outcomes.
A key focus of the role will be driving the implementation of the community engagement plan for Placemaking and ensuring robust project planning sits underneath the strategy to deliver upon the strategic objectives.
As the Placemaking Lead you will also contribute to the co-design of activation programs designed to positively influence the community’s experience of place in partnership with the community and other key stakeholders.
What we are looking for –

As you can see, this is a diverse role that will require someone with a broad background with some exposure ideally to Strategic Planning or Urban Design. You will need to have a contemporary understanding of enhancing livability whilst also being able to engage with and build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders from senior leaders through to local community interest groups.
Finally, you have a high level of emotional intelligence, are politically savvy and a dynamic nature that sees you adapt effortlessly when the need arises.
