As part of the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR), Agriculture Victoria supports a productive, globally competitive and sustainable Victorian economy for our innovative and resilient agriculture, food and fiber sector.  They do this by working with the community and industry to enhance productivity; connect the sector with international markets, create jobs; support growth, and maintain effective biosecurity.
 
A strategic part of Agriculture Victoria is the Animal Welfare Victoria and Agriculture Policy Branch, which brings together agriculture and animal welfare regulatory policy functions from across the Agriculture portfolio. The Branch’s program covers policy development, implementation, administration and support of regulatory functions as well as assurance and education services.   
 
Reporting to the Executive Director, Animal Welfare Victoria and Agriculture Regulatory Policy, you will be responsible for providing specialist strategic and technical advice to departmental executives on legislative options to deliver a new animal welfare act and reform of biosecurity legislation.  Leading a small team, you will develop policy to deliver best practice legislative reform options and provide strategic advice on the socioeconomic impacts of proposed legislative changes.  Your role will have you developing strong relationships with key stakeholders including Local, State and Commonwealth government agencies as well as industry, business and community stakeholders.
 
To be successful in this role you will possess demonstrated experience in policy formation and implementation and legislative reform together with a strong understanding of cabinet and parliamentary processes. Your ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, will assist you in leading strategies across the department. You regard your political acumen as a key strength and enjoy leading an area of reform with transformational opportunities. Relevant tertiary qualifications in policy, economics or law will be highly regarded.
