The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch in Agriculture Victoria includes Biosecurity Services and Agriculture Services and Regions. This branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and informs policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety. Given the size and scale of this operation, two Executive Director roles jointly lead this branch. The two Executive Directors are expected to work closely together to plan and deliver biosecurity and agriculture services as an integrated program of work and interoperability to ensure consistency and collaboration in operations.
In this role, you will lead a workforce of 170 staff located across Victoria and deliver key regional initiatives and programs aligned with agricultural sector development, adaptation and transition. This will include designing and delivering targeted information, products and services that support the adoption of technology, innovation and new knowledge across the irrigation, livestock, dairy, grains and horticulture sectors.
Your role will include looking into the future and driving major initiatives and response programs to support farm businesses affected by socioeconomic, environmental and technological changes. You will lead the on-ground response to current and emerging issues such as drought interventions and recovery efforts.
You will have the ability in this role to shape future service design and delivery that will meet the needs now and into the future. You will bring a strong focus on engaging a broad and diverse range of stakeholders and develop strong relationships whilst managing the differing viewpoints and perspectives.
To be successful in this role you will need to have an understanding of agriculture to ensure credibility with your key stakeholders is achieved. You have a strong track record for building strong working relationships and experience leading operational teams. Some experience in disaster management and recovery would be of benefit and the ability to develop and execute service responses for people experiencing hardship. Finally, you must be able to provide strong, collaborative, adaptable and values-based leadership, including coaching and mentoring, noting Agriculture Victoria’s key values of accountability, integrity, responsiveness and respect to foster a high-performance culture.
