With the CEO recruitment process well underway, the City of Whittlesea is seeking dynamic, contemporary people leaders to set the organisation up for future prosperity and to facilitate the creation of appealing neighbourhoods and commercial 'places' that attract discerning residents and businesses. We are currently seeking expressions of interest for the Director, Planning and Development to support the CEO and form the new executive team.

Reporting to the newly appointed CEO, you will be responsible for planning and delivering efficient and effective programs and services within the Directorate. This includes contract, asset, workforce, financial and stakeholder management. Ensuring a strategic approach to planning is taken, you will have full reign to create best in class approaches to services and bring innovation to meet the planning needs of the community. More specifically you will lead and provide direction to Building and Planning, City Safety and Amenity, and Sustainable Futures (includes Eco Dev, Strategic Land Use Planning, Heritage, Community Infrastructure and Environmental Sustainability) departments. With your deep expertise in planning, you will ensue that city growth is sustainable and delivers social, environmental, economic benefits for the community, especially in a post COVID 19 world. Leading strong technical teams, your leadership capabilities will further build a high functioning, cohesive and productive team culture. Using your strategic thinking ability and pragmatic approach to operations, you are quickly able to build trust at all levels in the organisation and provide expert advice to executive team members. The role is critical in supporting the CEO to provide the Council with the best quality advice to help it make optimal decisions regarding the prosperity and wellbeing of the community.

To be considered, you are well known as a values driven people leader who has demonstrated technical capabilities with the ability to lead in alignment with the Council's vision and plans. You will be innovative and future focused and seek out opportunities to continuously improve systems and processes. Applying expert judgment and decision making, you will fast become known for your 'can-do' approach, sense of service delivery and results orientation. Being politically astute and demonstrating a strong commitment to local government with a sound understanding of the statutory and legislative requirements of Council, your strong interpersonal skills will build positive relationships and foster productive partnerships. Tertiary qualifications in planning or an associated field is desirable.
