PrimeSafe is the Statutory Authority responsible for regulating the safety of red meat, poultry and seafood in Victoria with the primary objective of provision of safe, wholesome meat, poultry and seafood for all consumers. PrimeSafe is also responsible for the regulation of meat transport vehicles and the regulatory management of pet food. PrimeSafe ensures compliance with Australian Standards for food safety and animal welfare, and uses a licensing and inspection system for food businesses to implement quality assurance programs to maintain food safety and consumer confidence.
The Board is appointed by Cabinet via the Minister for Agriculture. The Board currently consists of nine members, and has 6 Non-Executive Director terms expiring as of 30th June 2021.
The role of the Board is to provide leadership and strategic guidance for PrimeSafe and to oversee management's implementation of PrimeSafe's Corporate Plan. The Board works as a team and meets on a regular basis. Board members must ensure that they can devote sufficient time and commitment to properly perform their role and duties on behalf of PrimeSafe.
PrimeSafe is seeking interested individuals with demonstrated experience in Accounting (CPA accredited) and Finance, Public Health, Retail, Meat, Livestock production, meat processing and small goods. Candidates will also ideally have experience and knowledge in best practice regulation, corporate governance and risk management.
Candidates should have industry knowledge or experience in food, meat, poultry or seafood production or processing, biosecurity or animal health and welfare.
